About Drive Fast Brake Last

If my parents had let me, I would have worn a baseball jersey to every nice dinner we ever went to.

That isn't much of an exaggeration. Growing up, jerseys and sports tees were the only clothes I cared about. Sports and fast cars had my full attention, and what I wore was how I showed it.

That never wore off. I still spend my weekends following teams, players, and drivers. What changed is that I got tired of the gear.

Fan apparel runs on a formula and almost everyone sticks to it. Racing merch looks like racing merch. Baseball merch looks like baseball merch. Nobody crosses the two. So I started making the pieces I wanted and couldn't find anywhere.

What that looks like

A baseball jersey built around a Formula 1 driver. A football jersey for a baseball team. Retro and vintage design work on tees and hoodies, the kind that looks like it came out of a shoebox in somebody's attic.

The thinking behind it is simple. Every sport has its own visual language, its own typefaces, its own history. Pull them apart and put them back together in a new order and you get something that feels familiar and brand new at the same time. You've seen a hundred baseball jerseys. You haven't seen that one.

I wear everything I make

I'm not designing for a customer I've made up in my head. I draw the piece, I have it made, I put it on, and I wear it out. If it doesn't earn a spot in my own rotation, it doesn't go in the shop.

The best part of doing this is watching somebody work out what they're looking at. There's a beat where it doesn't quite compute, then it clicks, and they get it. That reaction is the reason I keep making these.
